Special Events:
Sarah Shepard Gallery will present works by Hungarian-American, lens-based artist Dora Somosi. The exhibition will feature work from Somosi’s series, By Her Side, a collection of cyanotype contact prints made on watercolor paper. These “photographic blueprints” capture and memorialize trees located at the studios and homes of influential, historic female artists and thinkers. The selected women—such as Imogen Cunningham, Agnes Martin, Georgia O’Keeffe and Edith Heath—all share(d) a deep relationship with nature and the landscape. Somosi’s series—as a performative act that calls upon instinctive photographing to both connect and memorialize—pays homage to these pioneering women.
