In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to make your very own pochoir stencil print. Pochoir is a French printing technique that uses hand-cut stencils to layer color onto an image, creating rich, luminous surfaces.
Carrie Ann will guide you through the process, resulting in prints with soft veils of color and layered depth. The workshop will cover creating stencils and technical applications of ink. Students will learn how to use both positive and negative stencils, and how to build images through layering. The focus will be on experimentation and discovery. All materials will be provided, and each participant will leave with a finished work.
Register for the workshop here.
From Colibri to Cura Group Show | March 7 - March 31, 2026
Cura Contemporary is thrilled to welcome five artists joining the gallery from our sister space, Colibri Gallery, which closed this past December. Together, these artists expand Cura’s program with a rich range of approaches to landscape, place, and the natural world, from plein air painting to contemporary interpretations of the American West.
The exhibition brings together the work of Don Weller, an award winning watercolorist focusing on the American West; Terri Ford, a world-renowned contemporary landscape pastelist; Jackie Battenfield, an artist and author recognized for her luminous botanical paintings on mylar; Cameron Bailey, an artist and printmaker specializing in water-based woodblock printmaking; and Thomas W. Schaller, an award-winning watercoloris.t, architect, and author based in New York City
Datum: Hidden Structures | March 7 - April 26, 2026
Carrie Ann Plank, a printmaker based in San Francisco, CA, explores scientific phenomena and mathematical equations to reveal the substructure underpinning our world. Her artwork rewards close observation as she creates multiple overlaying patterns and interactions.
On view is a broad survey of Carrie Ann’s most recent six bodies of work that reveal the substructure concreting our reality by visually breaking down equations to their base components. Her printmaking practice is inherently experimental, and this exhibition includes new large-scale paintings that cross-pollinate printmaking and painting methods to create unique editions.
One set of large-scale paintings is made of multiple one-of-a-kind woodblock panels that interlay painting by hand, showcasing her talent for creating subtle color shifts to create intricate detail and depth. The other paintings on view demonstrate Carrie Ann’s intricate stencil work, creating space that illustrates super-transparent layers within a two-dimensional surface.
The Human Condition | March 7 - April 26, 2026
Morgan Hill-based artist Jylian Gustlin is an artist who loves color. On view are works from her recent series, Prophecy and Alchemy, which explore the layering of color and abstract elements to evoke an appreciation for nature and to celebrate its chaotic beauty.
In Entropy 56, she explores the scientific theory of entropy—a lack of order or predictability—that is translated onto canvas, building layer upon layer to illustrate the inevitable changes that surround us. Equus is a painting created in collaboration with her brother, the artist Dave Gustlin. Both have a love for horses, and between Dave’s realism mixed with Jylian’s expressionist style, the two dance around one another to create a work of art that celebrates and captures a sincere appreciation for nature.
