MarinMOCA’s new location in San Rafael, at the edge of the San Francisco Bay Estuary, provides the backdrop for Future Flows, a group exhibition examining the Bay as both a vital ecosystem and a key indicator of the global climate crisis. The exhibition brings together local and international artists to explore pressing challenges related to water. Focus areas include the impact of sea level rise, the re-engineering of water infrastructure, and the impact of industries like advanced computing on aquatic ecosystems. Through a variety of artistic mediums, including immersive installations, soundscapes, social engagement and research-driven works, artists respond to the current precarity of water resources and environmental shifts impacting our world.
Future Flows connects the specific histories, rights, and futures of water in the Bay Area to global concerns, highlighting the interconnectedness of water systems. The exhibition aims to foster a deeper understanding of our relationship with water and its critical role in a sustainable future.
