"FABRICATIONS: Art from The Space Program" May 8th – August 1, 2025

As economies shift, technologies advance, and environmental pressures grow, our sense of place and identity remains in constant flux. FABRICATIONS brings together Bay Area–based artists from The Space Program San Francisco residency who work with raw, reclaimed, and unconventional materials—reshaping, repurposing, and reinterpreting them to create meaning.

Through sculpture, painting, fiber arts, ceramics, video, and mixed media, these artists push the boundaries of material-based practices and offer fresh perspectives on our relationship with both the built and natural environments. Their works uncover the personal and cultural histories embedded in material itself, revealing how what we create—and what we cast aside—reflects who we are and what we value.

Presented at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society, this exhibition also encourages reflection on material consumption and sustainability, emphasizing the environmental consequences of production and disposal. By giving renewed life to overlooked or discarded matter, the artists in FABRICATIONS invite us to question what we take for granted and to recognize the power of art to reimagine place, identity, and the future.

Participating artists include: Kristin Bauer, Maria A. Guzmán Capron, Julia Goodman, Dana Hemenway, Hughen/Starkweather, Amy Nathan, Rachelle Reichert, Laurel Roth Hope, Charlene Tan, Henna Vainio, Amber Jean Young, and Connie Zheng.

This exhibition is organized by Martin Strickland, Foundation Director at Saint Joseph’s Arts Society.

About The Space Program

The Space Program is a private, San Francisco–based artist residency that offers space, tools, and time for artists across disciplines to pursue ambitious projects. In a city where creative space is increasingly scarce, it serves as a vital resource for sustaining San Francisco’s vibrant artistic community. Residents have access to a recording studio, screen printing facilities, a wood and metal shop, and off-site resources in ceramics and metal fabrication. The Space Program was founded by Jacob Pritzker and Jud Bergeron, with support from Isaac Pritzker, Emily Lakin, and Ben Venom.

This exhibition is made possible through the generous support from the William H. Donner Foundation.
