Rooted in the belief that candid speech is essential to an open and free society, Truthtellers brings together a group of artists who dare speak truth to power. Their unique perspectives shed light on systemic rifts, injustices, and fissures in the collective imagination. The works on view expose obscured narratives and challenge paradigms that often go unquestioned or unnoticed. Here, direct and indirect forms of telling take place, from action-based interactions to meditative, reflective, and sometimes playful works, many of which are deeply personal.
The Truthtellers in this exhibition are makers, mentors, disruptors, and community builders, facilitating transformation through socially engaged approaches. These artists, many of whom are also involved in the radical vocation of arts education – illuminate paths toward understanding and change. In this urgent moment, their acts of art-making inspire us to reimagine the status quo. Varied in material use and creative tactics, they empower others to seek their own personal truths.
