"Kristen Wong: False Spring" March 6 - April 18, 2025
Strike-Slip Gallery is thrilled to announce False Spring by Kristen Wong. In this exhibition, Wong explores the fleeting nature of hope through a mix of photo collage, mixed media, ceramics, tapestry, and installation. The exhibition examines how memories, once distant, can be reawakened and transformed through artistic manipulation, especially while working with other creatives. Just as every spring brings the opportunity for renewal and reflection, so does the false spring kill the fresh buds on a branch, reaching too early for summer.
As both a title and an experience, False Spring reflects on love stories and the fleeting promises made during the early and intense, blinding phase of love. Wong takes a deeply personal and collaborative approach, inviting a group of trusted artists to interact with her work, to further blur the lines between individual expression and collective experience. Through this collaboration, Wong emphasizes the idea that art is both a personal and communal process of discovery. She invites the audience to be part of the exhibition, and offers workshops throughout.
As Wong herself reflects, False Spring is “an act of exposing the truth, lies, and the facsimiles in between - breaking them open, turning them over, and building an understanding from the wreckage. Maybe the pieces never fit back together the way they once did. Maybe they’re not supposed to. And maybe it’s better that way.” False Spring is more than a solo exhibition; it is a collective expression of trust and love. Created “in tandem with the most trusted eyes in my world,” says Wong, making it a poignant exploration of hope, memory, and artistic rebirth. For the works presented, she worked closely with Mira Mariah, Brett Amory, Ebti, Isaac Vazquez Avila, Dana Dart McLean, Ricardo Levario Cruz, Veda Sun, Kaolin Fire, Gonzalo del Peon, and Jimmy McCaffrey.
Upcoming Exhibition:
"Momo Schafer: HIKARI" May 1 - June 15, 2025
San Francisco-based glass artist Momo Schafer presents her five-year retrospective at Strike Slip Gallery. In Japanese, Hikari (光) means "light"—a symbol of hope, direction, and an inner spark. At the heart of the exhibition are Schafer’s glass Daruma figures, reimagined with a more feminine presence while still embodying resilience and perseverance. The show will feature a variety of these iconic forms, reflecting the evolution of her work over the past five years.
